NOTE: This position opening is in the office in Montreal, Canada.

 About EOS Aircraft, Inc.:

EOS Aircraft, Inc. is an innovative aviation company dedicated to developing a new regional airplane that represents the next leap in sustainable aviation technology. Our mission is to redefine regional air travel by offering an environmentally friendly and efficient aircraft solution. We are on a journey to make air travel more sustainable and accessible, and we're looking for a BMS (Battery Management System) Control Integration Principal Engineer to lead our efforts in this exciting and challenging endeavor.

Job Summary:

The BMS Control Integration Principal Engineer /Integrator will be responsible for contributing to the conceptualization, design, integration and certification of the BMS interface for the electrical propulsion energy storage system (ESS), reporting directly to the Sr. Principal Engineer-Propulsion Energy System .  This leadership role demands technical expertise to assist in the selection of the cell technology and associated supplier. This leader integrates the necessary sensing features into the Module level, including developing a significant relationship between cell-level life cycle data, the SOx algorithms (E.g. SOP, SOE, SOH, SOC) and the hosting of the outputs of the BMS to the FADEC, MCU (Motor Control Unit) and IMA to meet the mission requirements.  This integration includes optimization of the TMS/electrical installation interface, providing battery monitoring systems (BMS) alerts for thermal control, failure protection, and annunciations.  The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to deliver propulsion systems that are innovative, reliable, and efficient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership in the development of BMS Integration:
Key contributions to the Propulsion ESS integration process, ensuring seamless incorporation into aircraft design with a focus on performance, efficiency, and sustainability.

  • Team Collaboration: Lead and coordinate activities between propulsion system integration engineers, hardware, software engineers, airframe designers, systems and mechanical engineering teams to achieve optimal design solutions.

  • Identify compatible protocols to address the required number of labels to host data, meet performance requirements (E.g. signal latency), and integrate software, firmware, and hardware via multi-supplier collaboration.

  • Project Management: Manage BMS integration projects, overseeing timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure project milestones are achieved.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all propulsion systems meet relevant aerospace standards and regulatory requirements for certification.

  • Supplier Management: Work closely with propulsion Energy Storage System suppliers and partners to define requirements, resolve technical challenges, and ensure delivery of high-quality components and systems.  Ensure the Battery Management System strategy and execution provides required information for battery state and ensure interfaces to Thermal Management System are optimized and executed.

  • Testing and Validation: Oversee the testing and validation of the BMS interfaces of the Propulsion ESS to verify performance and safety criteria are met.

  • Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements in hybrid propulsion, leading efforts to incorporate innovative solutions into aircraft designs.

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning of propulsion technologies and integration methodologies to maintain and enhance the company’s competitive edge.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years in the aerospace industry within an aircraft or OEM environment, with substantial leadership experience in engineering, particularly through the design, development, and certification lifecycle of EASA/FAA Part 25 aircraft.

  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of contemporary propulsion technologies, system integration, and aerospace certification processes.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage projects from concept through to certification and production.

  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to address technical challenges through innovative solutions.

  • Communication: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.

Desired Attributes:

  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire engineering teams, with a track record of hiring and organizing a successful collaborative team. Ability to work successfully in a cross-functional environment that prioritizes the success of the overall program and company goals.

  • Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated flexibility to work in a dynamic environment typical of a start-up, contributing to the growth of EOS as an organization.

  • Prior experience in an aerospace start-up or with (electric) aircraft development is highly valued.

  • A strong passion for innovation in aviation and a commitment to advancing sustainable transport solutions.
