We are on a journey to make air travel more sustainable and accessible, and we're looking for a Principal Engineer in Electrical Propulsion to lead our efforts in this exciting and challenging endeavor.
The Principal Engineer Electrical Propulsion will be responsible for contributing to the conceptualization, design, integration and certification of the electrical engine system, reporting directly to the Head of Integrated Propulsion Systems. This role demands technical expertise to assist in the selection of the Integrated Motor technology, required sub systems and associated suppliers. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to deliver propulsion systems that are innovative, reliable, and efficient.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Define the system architecture, interfaces, and specifications to meet electric engine requirements.
Evaluate and recommend integrated motor technology and associated suppliers.
Work closely with suppliers to deliver high quality components and systems.
Collaborate with engineering team to ensure optimal system integration.
Develop technical requirement documents for motor and associated systems.
Provide input to FHA/SSA/FMEA.
Contribute to strategic planning of propulsion technologies and integration to maintain and enhance the company’s competitive edge.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 15 years in the aerospace industry within an aircraft or OEM environment.
In-depth knowledge of electric engine technologies, system integration, and aerospace CFR Part 25 and/or CFR Part 33 certification processes.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to address technical challenges through innovative solutions.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Desired Attributes:
Master’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
Prior experience in integrated motor drives for aerospace applications.
Prior experience in an aerospace start-up or with (electric) aircraft development is highly valued.
Demonstrated ability to execute projects from concept through to certification and production.
