Joshua Wollam

Associate Director, Translational Biology at Escient Pharmaceuticals

Joshua Wollam has over 18 years of work experience in the scientific field. From 2001-2003, they were a Research Intern at Texas AgriLife Research. From 2003-2005, they were a Graduate Research Associate at Baylor College of Medicine, where they investigated a bile acid-like biosynthetic pathway. From 2005-2011, they were a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, where they discovered a family of novel bile acid-like molecules and trained research technicians. From 2011-2013, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California San Diego, where they investigated molecular mechanisms linking obesity, inflammation and insulin resistance. From 2018-2019, they were employed at Crown Bioscience, Inc. as Director of Technical Operations, Inflammation and Immunology, and Study Director, Inflammation and Immunology. In their roles, they oversaw technical and scientific operations, provided scientific support for business development, and designed and executed pre-clinical autoimmune disease studies. Lastly, they are currently employed at Escient Pharmaceuticals as Associate Director, Translational Biology, Senior Scientist, Biology, and Scientist 2, Biology.

Joshua Wollam obtained a BS in Biology from Texas A&M University between 2001 and 2005. Joshua then went on to pursue a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine, which they completed in 2011. In 2014, they obtained a Micro-MBA Program from the University of California, San Diego - Rady School of Management, and in 2015 they obtained a Laboratory Leadership and Management certification from the Torrey Pines Training Consortium.
