Nancy Yuan's work experience includes various roles and responsibilities in different organizations. In 2001, they worked as a Residential and Vocational Manager at The New England Center for Children until 2003 when they became the Head Classroom Teacher until 2005. From 2006 to the present, Nancy has been an independent contractor as an Education Consultant, providing individualized education services and tutoring to neurotypical and special needs students. Nancy also acted as the primary liaison between students/families and schools, participated in IEP and ISP meetings, and maintained student progress records. In 2006, Nancy also started working as a Program Assistant at New Roads School until 2011. From 2021 to 2022, they were a GEAR UP College Access Advisor and a GEAR UP Postsecondary Mentor at Think Together. In 2015, Nancy worked as an Alumni Scholarships Program Application Reviewer at the UCLA Alumni Association. Most recently, they joined Extreme Tech Challenge in 2022 as a Program Fellow and currently holds the position of Strategic Program Manager.
Nancy Yuan has a diverse education history. Nancy holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Human Development and Psychology (Psychological Studies in Education) with honors from UCLA. Prior to pursuing their master's degree, they completed a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from Boston University. Furthermore, Nancy has an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management, graduating Summa Cum Laude with the distinction of being on the Dean's Honor List from Los Angeles Mission College.
In addition to their formal degrees, Nancy has obtained various certifications. Nancy completed courses on Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Inclusive Leadership, and Unconscious Bias through LinkedIn. Nancy also holds a Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate from Google.
Nancy has obtained certifications in different areas, including data sharing under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) from the U.S. Department of Education. Nancy has also completed training in Psychological First Aid from John Hopkins University and project management courses (Managing Project Risks and Changes, Budgeting and Scheduling Projects, Initiating and Planning Projects) from UC Irvine. Additionally, Nancy has pursued certifications related to the restaurant industry, such as the ManageFirst Program in Customer Service, Hospitality and Restaurant Management, and Nutrition from the National Restaurant Association.
Furthermore, Nancy has attended training sessions on Special Education Law and Advocacy, Restorative Justice, and Basic Mediation with an emphasis on cross-cultural competency from organizations such as Wrightslaw and the Asian Pacific American Dispute Resolution Center. Nancy has also cleared the California Basic Educational Test (CBEST) and the California Subject Examinations for Teachers: Multiple Subjects (CSET) administered by The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson.
