Karl Nelson

Karl Nelson has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Karl began their career in 1998 as an Apple Computer Higher Education Sales Representative and Webmaster at Westwind Computing. Karl then worked as a Web Developer at Puget Sound ESD from 2001 to 2004. Karl moved on to become the Director of Technology and Operations at Digital Learning Commons from 2004 to 2009. Karl then joined the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction as the Assistant Director of Technology and Operations in 2009, and later became the Director of Digital Learning Department from 2010 to 2015. Karl then joined Open Up Resources in 2015 as the Chief Operating Officer, focusing on nonprofit development of high-quality curricula. In 2017, they became the Chief Information Officer at Illustrative Mathematics, a position they held until 2023. Karl's most recent role is as the Chief Technology Officer at Family Engagement Lab, where they started in 2023.

Karl Nelson holds a BA degree in History from Western Washington University, which they obtained from 1994 to 1998. Following this, they pursued an MA degree in History at the University of Iowa from 1999 to 2000. Finally, they attended the University of Washington from 2001 to 2003, where they earned an MSIM degree in Information Management.
