Liam Canny has a diverse work experience. Liam started their career in 1990 as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard, where they taught American Government, was responsible for the progress of 100 students, and taught law enforcement procedures. Liam then worked as an Upper School Teacher/Coach at Haberdashers' Aske's Federation from 1999 to 2003 and at TASIS The American School in England from 2003 to present. Additionally, they have held roles as a Broadcast Journalist and Media Relations at FIBA and Euroleague Basketball since 2010.

Liam Canny pursued their education in various prestigious institutions over the years. Starting in 1985, they attended the University of Notre Dame for four years and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy in 1989. Following this, from 1993 to 1995, they enrolled at Queen's University Belfast, where they accomplished a Master's Degree in Modern Irish History. Continuing their academic journey, Liam went to the University of Cambridge in 1996 and completed a Master's Degree in International Relations the following year.
