Sinsamout Ounboundisane

FISHBIO Laos Director & Fisheries Biologist at Fish Bio

Sinsamout Ounboundisane is a fisheries biologist with more than 10 years of experience in research and community development in relation to aquatic resources. His expertise includes participatory research and management methods, community workshop development and facilitation, alternative livelihood options, government liaising, environmental research and monitoring, and small-scale aquaculture. He has extensive experience in establishing regulations and community enforcement of co-managed Fish Conservation Zones in both Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) and Myanmar. He has led trainings on fish tagging and the collection of fisheries and macroinvertebrate data, and has designed surveys for monitoring aquatic biodiversity.

As the company director of FISHBIO Laos in Vientiane, Lao PDR, Sinsamout manages office and field operations, oversees budgets, supervises staff, and maintains regular contact with government offices. He previously worked with World Vision Laos, Health Unlimited, and the Lao Department of Livestock and Fisheries, where he coordinated regional development activities related to aquaculture, livelihoods, wetlands valuation, and community fisheries management. Sinsamout holds a master’s degree in aquaculture and aquatic resources management from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok. He is a native Lao speaker and has strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Thai.
