Jacob Ishibashi

Senior Scientist at Fluent BioSciences

Jacob Ishibashi has a diverse work experience in the field of biomedical research and polymer chemistry. Jacob worked at Fluent BioSciences Inc. from 2020 to present, initially as a Scientist II and then as a Senior Scientist. In these roles, they contributed to the development and launch of the PIPseq single-cell RNA sequencing platform, trained and mentored team members, and conducted research in polymer chemistry and assay design.

Before joining Fluent BioSciences Inc., Jacob worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at Northwestern University from 2017 to 2020. In this role, they focused on adapting dynamic covalent chemistry for recyclable polymer networks, synthesized different types of vitrimers, and contributed to the development of photocontrolled synthesis of conjugated polymers.

Prior to their postdoctoral work, Jacob was a PhD candidate and researcher at Boston College from 2013 to 2017, where they specialized in the synthesis and analysis of boron-nitrogen-containing analogues. Jacob also conducted kinetic analysis of aromatic Claisen rearrangement.

Furthermore, Jacob's academic journey started at the University of Oregon, where they worked as a PhD candidate from 2010 to 2013 as part of the Liu Group. Additionally, they began their research experience as an NSF REU student at California State University, Fullerton in 2009, working with the Zhuangjie Li Group.

Overall, Jacob Ishibashi has a strong background in polymer chemistry, RNA sequencing, and interdisciplinary research collaboration.

Jacob Ishibashi attended Punahou School from 1995 to 2006. Jacob then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry and Economics at Boston College from 2006 to 2010. Afterwards, they earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Chemistry from the University of Oregon in 2012. Lastly, Jacob completed their education by obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemistry from Boston College in 2017.
