Leon Willems

Leon Willems is an experienced media development professional currently serving as Senior Advisor International Partnerships at Free Press Unlimited since April 2011. In this role, Leon focuses on enhancing press freedom and citizen access to information globally through partnerships with over 100 organizations. Previous positions include Director of Policy and Programmes at Free Press Unlimited, Steering Committee Member for the Global Forum for Media Development, and various directorships at Free Voice and Press Now, where efforts centered on independent media support in numerous countries. Leon's early career included pivotal roles such as Chief of Radio at the United Nations Mission in Sudan and Head of the Information Department at IKON Television in the Netherlands. Leon holds a BA in Sociology from Radboud University and completed secondary education at Stedelijk Gymnasium Nijmegen.
