Kara Herlihy's work experience begins in 1998 as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Emory University. Kara then worked as a Principal Application Scientist at Biacore, Inc. from 1999 to 2007. From 2007 to 2009, they served as a Principal Scientist at GE Healthcare. Kara then joined the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research as a Senior Investigator from 2009 to 2013. Kara Herlihy worked at AstraZeneca from 2014 to 2019, first as an Associate Principal Scientist and then as a Team Leader. From 2019 to 2021, they were the Director of Biochemistry & Biophysics at Syros Pharmaceuticals. Kara then became the Head of Biomolecular Sciences at New Equilibrium Biosciences in 2021, a role they held until 2022. Currently, Kara Herlihy is the Head of Discovery Biology at Frontier Medicines, starting in 2023.
Kara Herlihy has a strong education background in the field of chemistry. From 1988 to 1992, they attended University College Dublin and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Hons. degree in Chemistry. Kara then pursued further education at the same university from 1992 to 1997, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioinorganic Chemistry.
