Richard S.

Scientist I, Medicinal Chemistry at Frontier Medicines

Richard S. has a diverse work experience in the field of medicinal chemistry. Richard is currently working as a Scientist I at Frontier Medicines since October 2022. Prior to this, Richard was a Postdoc in Medicinal Chemistry at H3 Biomedicine from January 2022 to October 2022.

Richard's academic background includes a role as a Doctoral Student at the University of Oxford from September 2016 to August 2021. During this time, they conducted research on the construction of indole heterobiaryl atropisomers and synthesized a library of chiral ligands. Richard also optimized reaction enantioselectivity and demonstrated the applications of the products through substrate scope and derivatization. Richard designed experiments to elucidate the reaction mechanism and collaborated with another research group. Additionally, they supervised two undergraduate students in their MChem projects and worked as a Laboratory Demonstrator and an instructor for a taught course on synthesis for biology and medicine.

Richard has also gained industry experience as a Medicinal Chemist at Vertex Pharmaceuticals for a brief period in 2019. Richard completed an industrial placement at the company and worked on medicinal chemistry projects. Prior to this, they worked as a Summer Research Student at IAESTE in 2015 and at the University of Alberta in 2014. At these institutions, Richard assisted in characterizing natural products using NMR experiments and conducted research under the supervision of Prof. J. C.

Overall, Richard S.'s work experience spans academia and industry, with a focus on medicinal chemistry research and synthesis.

Richard S. pursued their education in the field of chemistry. Richard began their studies in 2011 at Queen's University Belfast, where they earned their MSci (Hons) degree in Chemistry in 2015. Richard'sacademic journey continued at the University of Oxford, where they pursued a DPhil degree in Organic Chemistry from 2016 to 2020.
