Jonas Michel

Backend Engineer at Gala Games

Jonas Michel has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Jonas started their career as a Software Development Intern at Boston Scientific in 2009 and went on to work as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Washington, where they built web and Android applications for drone flights and vehicle data logging.

In 2010, Jonas joined Driving Smarter as a Software Development Intern, followed by a role as a Graduate Research Assistant at Applied Research Laboratories, The University of Texas at Austin. During this time, they gained experience in research and development.

Jonas then pursued their graduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin, where they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Mobile & Pervasive Computing Lab. Their research focused on search algorithms and data modeling for mobile device-to-device applications, and they developed mobile apps, deployed experimental systems, and created simulation frameworks.

After completing their doctorate, Jonas joined CognitiveScale as a Platform Engineer, where they worked closely with data scientists to productionize machine learning and natural language processing models. Additionally, they played a key role in designing and building a customer engagement cloud platform.

In 2018, Jonas joined Certain Affinity as a Senior Server Engineer and progressed to roles such as Advanced Software Engineer, Senior Advanced Software Engineer, and eventually Principal Engineer. At Certain Affinity, they created a web services platform for multiplayer games and was responsible for designing and implementing core microservices, infrastructure, and automation.

From 2022 to 2023, Jonas worked at Roar Studios Inc. as a Platform Engineer, leading a small team in creating a social game experience for musicians and fans. Jonas served as the technical product owner for online features and built multiplayer foundations.

Most recently, Jonas joined Gala in 2023 as a Backend Engineer.

Jonas Michel completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Washington from 2005 to 2010. Jonas then pursued further studies at The University of Texas at Austin, earning their Master of Science degree in Software Engineering from 2010 to 2012. Continuing their education, Jonas completed their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Software Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin from 2012 to 2015.
