Ann Cathcart Chaplin is the Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of General Motors. Ann’s team manages legal affairs for GM in North America, focusing on employment, organizational transformation and regulatory compliance.

Ann was previously GM’s Deputy General Counsel with responsibility for autonomous & transportation services, customer experience, litigation, product development, and related strategic and regulatory issues. Ann joined GM in 2015 as Deputy General Counsel of Litigation.

Previously, Ann was an equity principal at the law firm of Fish & Richardson specializing in intellectual property litigation. She served as the firm’s Litigation Practice Group Leader, leading a team of 250 litigators across 12 offices. She was elected to the firm’s Management Committee and served as Managing Partner of the Twin Cities office.

Ann holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and earned her juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School.
