Peter Haverty

Peter Haverty is an accomplished leader in bioinformatics and software engineering, currently serving as the Director of Software Engineering at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc., where responsibilities include managing teams to develop the largest database of metagenomic sequences and enhancing data querying capabilities for organism engineers. Previously, Peter was a Staff Bioinformatics Engineer at Zymergen, Inc., leading a team to maintain a metagenomic database and support scientific computations. At Genentech, Peter held several roles, including Senior Bioinformatics Software Engineer, where key contributions included developing the “gAchilles” portal and Self Service Analysis GUIs, as well as applying machine learning for cancer research. Peter's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from Boston University and a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Davis.
