Marc Maxmeister has a long and varied work history. Marc started as a Volunteer Journalist for Voices of Central Pennsylvania in 2004. In 2001, they began working as a Graduate Research Assistant in Molecular Neuroscience and Neuroendocrinology at Integrative Biosciences at Penn State. In 2003, they were a Fulbright Research Fellow at Penn State and West Africa. In 2007, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow in Electrophysiology at Tulane University. In 2012, they were a Lecturer at Kenyatta University, teaching a graduate neuroscience course. In 2013, they were a Research Fellow at the Bellagio Center, Rockefeller Foundation. From 2008 to 2014, they worked at GlobalGiving, first as an Innovation Consultant, then as Manager of Impact and Innovation. From 2019 to 2022, they were a Senior Software Developer at FOXO Technologies. Currently, they are a Senior Data Scientist / Developer at GivingTuesday.

Marc Maxmeister obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Appalachian State University in 1999. Marc also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Appalachian State University in 1999. In 2007, they earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience and a PhD in Integrative Biosciences from Pennsylvania State University.
