This is a full-time, in-person position based out of our Berkeley, CA office.

At Glyphic Biotechnologies, we plan to create the protein revolution for which scientists and researchers have been waiting. We are developing a massively parallel, single-molecule protein sequencing platform that will transform proteomics and usher in a new era of insights into human biology and disease. To date, we have raised >$50M from venture partners and non-dilutive grant funding to achieve our vision of next generation protein sequencing.

What we are looking for in you

We are seeking an experienced Proteomics Library Preparation Senior Scientist to join our dynamic startup team. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in protein chemistry, mass spectrometry, and proteomics techniques. This role requires a proactive and self-motivated individual capable of driving both short-term and long-term projects while collaborating effectively with team members.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead proteomics library preparation projects, including method development and optimization
  • Perform protein purification, digestion, labeling, and characterization using various techniques
  • Develop and optimize methods for analyzing protein/peptide modification efficiency and recovery yields using LCMS
  • Conduct protein sequencing and modification chemistry experiments
  • Utilize proteomics databases for in silico protein digestion and peptide library generation
  • Collaborate with team members to address technical challenges and meet project timelines
  • Communicate experimental results clearly and concisely to stakeholders
  • Contribute to the company's overall scientific strategy and innovation in proteomics

Required Competencies

  • Ph.D or M.S. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field with 6+ years (w/ Ph.D) or 8+ years (w/ M.S.) industry experience

  • Extensive knowledge of protein chemistries and sample prep methodologies, from purification to quantification

  • Proven expertise in:

    • Protein purification from various biological sources (cell lysates, tissues, serum)
    • Protein digestion and chemical modification of proteins/peptides
    • Characterization and quantification of modified proteins/peptides using LCMS, UV-Vis, fluorescence, and bio-analytical assays
  • Strong background in mass spectrometry, particularly LCMS for proteomics applications

  • Experience with proteomics data analysis and interpretation, especially of mass spectrometry experiments and data

  • Proficiency in using proteomics databases and software for in silico analyses

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

  • Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic research environment

  • Project management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced research environment
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and technologies in proteomics, including novel bioconjugation methods, site-/chemo-selective modifications, and/or late-stage protein/peptide functionalization/diversification.
  • Track record of publications or patents in the field of proteomics

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

  • Prompt and regular attendance, punctuality, and availability to work at assigned work location, including adhering to the Department’s attendance policy (e.g., adhering to your work schedule, including but not limited to: scheduled tasks, meetings, meal/rest breaks, etc.).
  • Ability to work shifts of at least 8 hours, 5 days per week.
  • Ability to work from a dedicated space that is distraction-free and has a secure, high-speed, internet connection.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment.
  • Ability to remain seated in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, computer, and other standard laboratory and facilities equipment.
  • No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of about 20 lbs. of force may be required.
  • Ability to interact with leadership, employees, and members in an appropriate and respectful manner.
  • Maintains composure during moments of stress, maintains a helpful disposition at all times, and leverages de-escalation skills and techniques when necessary.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, work effectively under time constraints, prioritize work, multi-task, and adapt to changing work demands.
