Distinguished Engineer / VP Of Engineering at GoDaddy

Praveen Alavilli is a highly experienced engineer with a strong background in software development, architecture, and developer evangelism. Throughout their career, they have held various roles in prominent companies such as GoDaddy, Poynt, PayPal, Amazon.com, AOL LLC, and Sun Microsystems/Utah State University.

Starting in 2021, Praveen Alavilli joined GoDaddy as a Distinguished Engineer and VP of Engineering. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Principal Engineer at GoDaddy, where they contributed to the Omni-Channel Commerce Platform.

Before their time at GoDaddy, Praveen Alavilli spent nearly a decade at Poynt, where they played a key role as the Head of Payments. Praveen was responsible for building and leading a team that converted PoyntOS into a platform for both internal and external applications, running on both Poynt Smart Terminals and in the cloud. Praveen also built core payment applications on the Poynt Smart Terminal, integrating EMV contact/contactless technology and certifications, as well as an acquirer integration framework.

From 2012 to 2013, Praveen Alavilli worked at PayPal as an Architect for Developer Product/APIs. Praveen designed and delivered new PayPal RESTful APIs for payments and vault using OAuth2.0 as the authentication and authorization protocol/framework. Praveen was also involved in the development of a new developer portal.

Prior to joining PayPal, Praveen Alavilli worked at X.commerce, a division of eBay Inc., where they held the position of Senior Manager for Developer Evangelism and Tools. Praveen took on the responsibilities of developer evangelism and tools for all eBay Inc. commerce capabilities, including PayPal, eBay, RedLaser, Milo, and X.

During their time at PayPal, Praveen Alavilli served as a Developer Evangelist for PayPal X, playing a vital role in growing the PayPal Developer community and evangelizing the open payments platform and APIs. Praveen built several sample apps, toolkits, and libraries to assist developers in integrating with PayPal and contributed to multiple product launches.

At Amazon.com, Praveen Alavilli worked as an SDE III, where they designed and built an authentication portal based on OpenID for Amazon.com and its subsidiary web properties. Praveen also participated in the early design and implementation of AWS IAM (Identity and Access Management) solution.

Praveen Alavilli's career also includes significant contributions at AOL LLC, where they worked in various roles. As a Technology Evangelist, they represented AOL at internal and external conferences, promoting AOL technologies and Open Services. Praveen also served as a System Architect, responsible for designing and implementing a strong authentication API for standalone AOL Desktop clients based on open standards. Additionally, they worked as a Principal Software Engineer, leading a team in the design, implementation, and deployment of new features for AOL's free conversion process, customizable landing pages for authentication, reporting improvements, and more. Praveen also played a key role in designing the new Open Authentication APIs for AOL Open Services.

Praveen Alavilli began their career as a Software Intern and Research Assistant at Sun Microsystems/Utah State University. Praveen worked on the development of security modules for Sun's Secure Media Server and designed and implemented data streaming and media security modules for MP3 using Java/JCE/JNI.

Throughout their career, Praveen Alavilli has demonstrated a deep understanding of software development, security, and authentication protocols. Praveen has consistently taken on leadership roles and contributed to the growth and success of the companies they have worked for.

Praveen Alavilli began their education at S.F.S High School, where they attended from 1990 to 1992. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Engineering at Andhra University from 1994 to 1998. Praveen further continued their academic journey at Utah State University, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science from 1998 to 2000.
