Laura Allen

Laura Allen has a diverse work experience spanning several government organizations. Laura is currently the President of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), a role they assumed in May 2023. Prior to this, they served as the President-Elect of GFOA from September 2022 to May 2023. In 2020, they were the Interim Town Manager for the Town of Berwyn Heights, Maryland. Before that, they served as the City Treasurer for the City of Greenbelt, Maryland from December 2019 to June 2020. From September 2013 to September 2019, they held the position of Town Administrator for the Town of Berlin. Laura Allen also has experience working as a City Manager and Assistant City Manager for the Town of Colma from 2005 to 2013. Laura began their career as a Senior Management Analyst for the City of Berkeley from 2000 to 2005. Additionally, they worked as an Assistant Transportation Planner/Analyst for AC Transit from 1989 to 1991.

Laura Allen's education history includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Nevada - Reno, which they obtained from 1980 to 1984. Laura continued their education at the same university and earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from 1984 to 1986. In 2008 to 2010, they attended Leadership ICMA to study Local Government Leadership. Additionally, they have obtained certifications such as Certified Public Finance Officer from the GFOA in 2012 and Credentialed City Manager from ICMA in 2011. Laura has also achieved various levels of fluency in French through Duolingo, with the most recent estimated certification achieved in 2016.
