Rebecca Smittenaar

Rebecca Smittenaar's work experience includes roles as a Prinicpal Clinical Scientist at GRAIL starting from March 2023, an Associate Director, Clinical Science at GRAIL from February 2022 to March 2023, and a Senior Research and Analysis Manager at GRAIL from May 2021 to February 2022. Prior to GRAIL, they held the position of Research Lead (Horizon Scanning & Demand Signalling) at NHS England from November 2020 to May 2021. Before that, they worked as an Analytical Lead at Public Health England from April 2018 to November 2020, leading a team of approximately 8 analysts. Rebecca has also worked as a Statistical Consultant in a freelance capacity from June 2016 to September 2019, providing expert advice and evaluation of NHS performance indicators. Rebecca has previous experience in Cancer Research UK as a Senior Analysis and Research Manager from December 2016 to April 2018 and as a Data Analysis and Research Manager from February 2015 to December 2016. Rebecca started their career in the NHS through the Graduate Scheme, which they were a part of from 2008 to 2010. Rebecca completed their PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience/Experimental Psychology at University College London, focusing on neuroplasticity due to sensory deprivation or learning in the deaf brain.

Rebecca Smittenaar has a diverse education history. Rebecca obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Neuroscience from University College London, graduating in 2014. Prior to that, they completed a Master's Degree in Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL from 2010 to 2011. In 2010, they also earned a Master's Degree in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University, where they studied from 2008 to 2010. Rebecca Smittenaar began their academic journey by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Newcastle University from 2005 to 2008.
