Sanjay Adhikari

Manager, R&d, IVD at GRAIL

Sanjay Adhikari has extensive work experience in the field of research and development, particularly in the area of in vitro diagnostics (IVD). Sanjay started working at GRAIL in 2022 as the Manager of R&D, responsible for leading various projects including CTA validation for a novel companion diagnostic, MRD assay development, and Multi-cancer Early Detection (MCED) assay validation.

Prior to GRAIL, Sanjay worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific from 2020 to 2022 as the Manager of Molecular Biology, IVD Development. During this time, they served as the tech lead for the development of a multiplex viral disease panel, including one for SARS-CoV-2. Sanjay also played a key role in the development of a qPCR assay for detecting asymptomatic SAR-CoV-2 infections, as well as a duplex qPCR assay for detecting residual Sf9 Host-Cell DNA / Baculovirus DNA and a triplex qPCR assay for detecting residual Kanamycin plasmid DNA.

Before joining Thermo Fisher Scientific, Sanjay worked at Guardant Health as a Senior Scientist in IVD from 2019 to 2020. In this role, they contributed to the late-stage development of a blood-based TMB assessment assay and led sample screening for breakthrough IVD analytical validation.

From 2016 to 2018, Sanjay worked at EntroGen, Inc. as a Senior Scientist in IVD. Here, they were involved in the development and validation of a panel for sequencing clinically relevant genes for breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. Sanjay also developed qPCR-based DNA quality control assays and NGS library quantification assays.

Prior to their industry roles, Sanjay worked as an Assistant Professor of Research at Houston Methodist from 2014 to 2015 and as an Assistant Professor of Oncology at Georgetown University Medical Center from 2010 to 2013. At Houston Methodist, they focused on research, while at Georgetown University Medical Center, they developed and validated high-throughput screening assays for a small molecule inhibitor and conducted research on the effects of SNPs on DNA Repair enzymes.

Sanjay Adhikari has a strong educational background in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. Sanjay obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Calcutta, with a specialization in biophysics and molecular biology. Prior to their doctoral studies, they completed a Master's Degree in Biochemistry from the same university.

Furthermore, Sanjay Adhikari has engaged in postdoctoral research in the field of DNA repair and oncology at Georgetown University. During this time, they gained valuable experience working as a Postdoctoral Fellow.

In addition to their formal education, Sanjay Adhikari pursued further professional development by obtaining a certification in "Introduction to Genomic Technologies" from Coursera Course Certificates in October 2016. This certification demonstrates their commitment to keeping up with the latest advancements in their field.
