Kelvin Okamoto

Kelvin Okamoto has a long and successful career in the industry. Kelvin began their career in 1987 as a Product Development Specialist at GE Plastics. In 1990, they moved to Basell as a Group Leader. In 1994, they joined Pactiv as an Engineering Supervisor, where they were later moved to Macedon and Canandaigua, NY. In 1998, they became the Director of Intellectual Property at Trexel. In 2003, they joined TaylorMade-adidas Golf as an Expert Engineer. In 2005, they joined Solo Cup Company as a Manager of Innovation- Plastic Materials and Manager of Materials Engineering. In 2010, they became the President of Green Bottom Line, Inc. and Chief Technology Officer at Cereplast. In 2021, they joined Green Dot Bioplastics, Inc. as the Chief Technical Officer. Most recently, they have been the CEO of Gen3Bio, Inc. since 2014. At Gen3Bio, they are responsible for transforming algae produced in municipal wastewater treatment by extracting fats, sugars and proteins using a proprietary enzyme blend and further converting them into specialty chemicals. Over existing technologies, Gen3Bio increases algae product yields up to 50%, reduces capital requirements up to 90% and reduces operating expenses up to 50%.

Kelvin Okamoto completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from Stanford University between 1978 and 1982. Kelvin then went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry from Cornell University between 1982 and 1986. In 2004, they obtained a Registered Patent Agent certification from the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). In May 2020, they obtained an ASTM Approved Instructor (AIP) certification from ASTM International.
