Martin Lopez-Iu

SolarCorps Construction & O&M Fellow at GRID Alternatives

Martin Lopez-Iu is the current SolarCorps Construction & O&M Fellow at GRID Alternatives. Martin has held various previous positions, most notably Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator at CicLAvia, Inc. from January 2012 to December 2015, and Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator at the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition from January 2010 to December 2014. In these positions, Martin recruited, trained, and managed hundreds of volunteers, as well as led outreach efforts to communities prior to each event. Martin also developed online systems for recruiting, training and tracking volunteers, and they communicated efficiently with various entities to assess proposals, troubleshoot, and plan events and programing.

In September 2008, Martin began an internship at Trevor Zoo where they assisted with the care of over 500 animals and helped develop educational programs for school groups and the general public. Martin also participated in research projects on topics such as habitat loss and species extinction. This experience inspired Martin to pursue a career in environmentalism and they have been working in the field ever since.

Martin Lopez-Iu obtained a BA in Environmental Studies and Geography from the University of California, Los Angeles. Martin also has a Wilderness First Responder certification from NOLS. Their current field of study is Wildlife Conservation at Vassar College.

Martin Lopez-Iu reports to Anna Bautista, VP, Construction. They are on a team with Calvin Nguy - Commercial Project Designer & Engineer, Michael Dela Pena - Construction Training Manager, and John McIntosh - Director, Engineering.
