Adrian Matei

Adrian Matei has had a diverse range of work experiences in various roles and industries. Adrian began their career as a Master research intern at Université Joseph Fourier, where they conducted high-resolution simulations of orographic convective precipitations.

Following this, Adrian worked as an AI Research Scientist at Math Labs Limited, conducting research on developing novel techniques to characterize and label anomalies in time-series data. Adrian also trained and tested machine learning algorithms for anomaly classification and conducted time-series forecasting.

Adrian then joined Insight Risk Consulting as a Data Scientist, where they were involved in data extraction, exploration, cleansing, and structuring for a global data repository. Adrian was responsible for conducting data wrangling and machine learning tasks to enhance data quality and delivered new model versions for implementation in a production platform.

After that, Adrian joined NatureMetrics as a Senior Data Scientist, where they worked on developing new metrics and machine learning-based tools for biomonitoring and decision-making. Adrian also worked closely with product managers and business development teams to identify business challenges and design user stories for product development.

Subsequently, Adrian took on the role of Senior Machine Learning Engineer at NatureMetrics, where they implemented ML strategies to build ML-based biodiversity and ecosystem software services.

Adrian later became the Head of Machine Learning & Insights at NatureMetrics, leading and mentoring the ML & Insights team in building analytic engines and finding architectural solutions for the company's data platform.

Most recently, Adrian has been working at GrowUp Farms as the Head of Data & Machine Learning. In this role, they are responsible for building and leading a team to maintain and enhance the company's data and ML platforms. Adrian collaborates closely with stakeholders to extract insights that support the company's business goals of increasing crop yield and reducing resource consumption and waste.

Overall, Adrian Matei has gained extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and research, with a focus on applying these skills to domains such as environmental science, risk consulting, and agriculture.

Adrian Matei's education history begins with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics from the West University of Timisoara, which they obtained from 2008 to 2011. Adrian then pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Physics from the same university, completing it from 2011 to 2012. Adrian furthered their studies by pursuing another Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree, this time in Physics/Atmospheric Physics from Université Grenoble Alpes, which they completed in 2013.

Continuing their academic journey, Adrian enrolled at UCL and pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Physical Oceanography from 2013 to 2019. Throughout their educational journey, Adrian has obtained various certifications. In August 2020, they obtained the certification for "Getting started with Tensorflow 2" from Imperial College London. Additionally, in September 2022, Adrian obtained multiple certifications related to machine learning, including "Machine Learning Modeling Pipelines in Production," "Deploying Machine Learning Models in Production," "Machine Learning Data Lifecycle in Production," and "Machine Learning Engineering for Production (MLOps)" from Coursera. Adrian also obtained the certification for "Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks Essential Training" from LinkedIn in August 2020.
