Wasantha Hemachandra

Licensed Avionics Engineer at Gulf Air

Wasantha Hemachandra has a diverse work experience in the aviation industry. Wasantha started their career as an Avionics Engineer at Kuwait Airways in 2014. Wasantha then moved on to Gulf Air in 2009 and has been working there as a Licensed Avionics Engineer, specifically as the Avionics Workshop In-Charge. In this role, they are responsible for maintenance planning, spare level management, budgeting, costing, and coordinating with various departments and third parties. Prior to joining Gulf Air, Wasantha worked at SriLankan Airlines from 1992 to 1998 as a Senior Aircraft Workshop Technician, overseeing daily activities in aircraft battery overhaul workshop among others. Before shifting to the aviation sector, they worked as an Assistant Engineer at an international construction company in Sri Lanka from 1990 to 1992, where their responsibilities included electrical wiring diagrams, site visiting, material ordering, and managing a workforce. Wasantha also briefly served as an Instructor at the National Institute of Engineering Sciences in Sri Lanka in 1990.

Wasantha Hemachandra's education history begins with their G.C.E. Advanced Level studies at Ananda College in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 1977 to 1984, where they focused on Mathematics. Following that, they attended the National Institute of Engineering Sciences in Sri Lanka from 1986 to 1990, earning a National Diploma in Engineering Sciences with a specialization in Electrical Engineering. In 1993, they enrolled in the Technical Training School at SriLankan Airlines Ltd. and completed the Aircraft Technician Basic Course, focusing on Avionics, in 1996. In 2000 to 2001, they attended the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, where they obtained an Aircraft Maintenance License in the Category B2 (Electrical) with Lic. No: AML/381.
