Mark Thompson has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Mark started their career as a Physical Scientist at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1982 and then transitioned to the U.S. Coast Guard as an Environmental Protection Specialist from 1985 to 1987. Following this, they joined AECOM (formerly TAMS Consultants Inc.) in 1987 as a Principal Associate, where they provided project management, planning, and environmental services to aviation, land development, infrastructure, and mining clients, including international assignments in Colombia, Thailand, and Costa Rica. In 2002, Mark joined Hanson Professional Services Inc. as a Sr. Project Manager/Vice President, where they were responsible for project management for the South Suburban Airport and Bult Field, overseeing land acquisition, property management master planning, and environmental services. Additionally, Mark served as the Head Lacrosse Coach at Homewood-Flossmoor High School from 2007 to 2019.

Mark Thompson received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Forestry from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, which they attended from 1978 to 1980. Following this, they pursued further education in water resources and obtained both a Master of Science (M.S.) degree from the same institution and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree from Syracuse University, both in the field of Water Resources. These degrees were earned between 1980 and 1982.
