Director Of CSP Systems Engineering at Heliogen

Willem Landman has a diverse range of work experience in the renewable energy industry. Willem currently holds the position of Director of CSP Systems Engineering at Heliogen, where they are responsible for overseeing the design of concentrated solar power systems. Prior to this, they worked as a CSP System Design Specialist at the same company.

Before joining Heliogen, Landman was a CSP Engineer at sbp sonne, where they led a team in developing and positioning a disruptive technology in the market. Willem also served as a project manager and developed software for heliostat aim-point strategy.

Landman co-founded Stellenergy (Pty) Ltd in 2014, a technology development startup focused on concentrated solar power. Willem played a key role as the Principal Mechanical Engineer and Industry Consultant, conceptualizing innovative technology solutions and achieving significant cost reductions and performance improvements.

In addition, Landman has worked as an Industry Consultant and Researcher at The Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES), where they conducted feasibility assessments, energy efficiency investigations, and successfully initiated a solar process heat project. Willem has also participated in international programs focused on solar heating and cooling.

Earlier in their career, Landman gained research experience as a Researcher in the Global Engineering Teams Program, where they played a role in developing a first-of-its-kind automotive safety technology. Willem has also worked as a Research Assistant at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and as a Vacation Work Student at AEL Mining Services.

Willem Landman has a Matric degree from Hilton College, which was obtained from 2001-2006. Following that, from 2007-2010, they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand. Lastly, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from Stellenbosch University between 2011-2017.
