Sam Mayhew

Medical Director at High Performance Sport New Zealand

Sam Mayhew has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Sam started their career as a General Practitioner at HealthZone Medical in 2015 and worked there until 2020. During this time, they also worked as a Skin Cancer Doctor at Firstcheck from 2017 to 2021. In 2018, they joined High Performance Sport New Zealand as a Medical Director and continued in this role until 2020. Sam later became the Medical Director of the New Zealand Olympic Committee in 2023, overseeing the NZL Youth Commonwealth Games Team. Additionally, they worked as a Skin Cancer Stream Lead at Skin Institute Group from 2023. Sam also has experience as a Sports Doctor, having worked with the New Zealand Olympic Committee, New Zealand Rugby League, and Surf Life Saving New Zealand.

Sam Mayhew has a diverse education history. From 2007 to 2013, they attended The University of Auckland, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Medicine. In 2014, they pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Paediatrics at the same institution. Following this, they obtained a Diploma in Dermoscopy & Skin Cancer Medicine from HealthCert. Currently, Sam is enrolled in Healthcert to pursue a Diploma in General Dermatology, which they are expected to complete in 2022. Additionally, they have acquired a Diploma of Education in FIFA Diploma Football Medicine from the Féderation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Continuing their education in the field of medicine, Sam is currently studying for a Diploma in Sports Medicine at the IOC, with an anticipated completion date of 2023.
