Dr. Dimitrios Athanasakis

Dr. Dimitrios Athanasakis has a diverse and extensive work experience in the legal field. Dr. Dimitrios started their career as an Intern at the International Chamber of Commerce, where they gained valuable knowledge in international civil engineering law. Dr. Dimitrios then worked as a Solicitor Advocate and Independent Legal Services Professional, handling commercial litigation, regulatory compliance, and complex engineering project disputes. Dr. Athanasakis further built their expertise as a MENA Legal Counsel at Archirodon Construction, where they focused on legal advisory, contract management, and training. Currently, they are employed at Hill International, Inc. as the Vice President Legal, overseeing a wide range of legal support services, leading due diligence efforts, and developing strategic relationships with clients. Throughout their career, Dr. Athanasakis has consistently demonstrated their ability to handle complex legal matters and provide expert guidance in corporate, contractual, and risk management aspects.

Dr. Dimitrios Athanasakis completed their education as follows:

- From 1996 to 2000, they obtained an LLB (Hons) degree in Law from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

- In 2001 and 2002, they pursued an LLM in International Commercial Law at the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.

- Dr. Dimitrios then enrolled at Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom, from 2004 to 2008, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Law, focusing on International Construction Contracts, Arbitration (ICC Rules and English Law), Structured Finance.

- As part of their academic pursuits, they also spent a year as a Research Visitor at Universität Luzern, Switzerland, in 2003, studying Swiss Arbitration Law.

In addition to their formal education, Dr. Athanasakis has obtained several certifications in areas such as Building Client Relationships, Amendments to the Construction Act, Expert Witness training, Jurisdiction in Arbitration and Adjudication, Dispute Resolution Board Foundation Training, Negotiation Skills for Lawyers, and Administrative Support. The institutions providing these certifications include RICS, British Legal Institute, and the Educational & Staff Development Unit at Queen Mary College, University of London.
