Historic Environment Scotland (Sa Gàidhlig: Àrainneachd Eachdraidheil Alba) is Scotland's public body working to ensure Scotland's history and heritage makes a real difference to people’s lives.

We care for more than 300 properties of national importance, drawing more than 3 million visitors per year. We look after internationally significant collections including over five million drawings, manuscripts and images of Scotland, along with one of the largest collections of aerial imagery in the world.

We invest about £14 million a year to national and local organisations, supporting building repairs, ancient monuments, archaeological work, and others.

With over 1,200 members of staff, our range of skills and disciplines is wide and varied. We employ archaeologists, art historians, conservators, craftspeople, custodians, building professionals and specialised support staff.

The Digital and IT Services team at Historic Environment Scotland ensures the efficient management and security of digital assets and IT infrastructure. This includes developing and maintaining databases, ensuring information security, managing digital repositories, enhancing digital accessibility, and supporting network and security operations. The team also focuses on user experience research, GIS services, and Building Information Modeling (BIM), enabling the organization to effectively support and enhance Scotland's historical and cultural heritage through technology.
