Melise Smith-Oakley has a diverse work experience that spans over several years. Melise began their career as the Owner/Manager of Melise's, a premier tuxedo rental and suit business in Southern Illinois, in September 2006. In this role, they assisted customers in choosing attire for special occasions, formal events, and business meetings. Melise's also offered measurement services for suits and tuxedos.

In November 2018, Melise moved on to work as a Membership Coordinator at The HUB Recreation Center. During their tenure, they managed membership-related activities and responsibilities. Their role at The HUB Recreation Center concluded in January 2020.

In January 2020, Melise joined Hospice of Southern Illinois as a Community Education Coordinator. In this position, they focused on educating the community through speaking engagements, family meetings, networking, and collaboration with healthcare professionals.
