Director of Communications, Programs at Human Rights Campaign

An experienced communicator and advocate, Laurel Powell serves as Deputy Director of Communications for the Human Rights Campaign's Foundation programs, leading the team that shines a light on the organization's vital programmatic work. While this is her first role with HRC, she has previously held communications positions with Planned Parenthood and the National Center for Transgender Equality, and also led the City of Providence, RI's Human Relations Commission as its Executive Director, where she worked to improve municipal government accessibility for first-generation immigrants and protect housing rights for residents facing source of income discrimination.

Born in Benton, Arkansas, Laurel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Flagler College, where she graduated cum laude. She considers Washington, D.C. her chosen home.
