Casey Michel has a diverse work experience in journalism, research, and analysis. From 2013 to 2017, they worked as a freelance writer, consultant, and editor. They then joined ThinkProgress as an investigative reporter from 2017 to 2019. Following that, from 2019 to 2023, they worked as a journalist, researcher, and analyst on a freelance basis. Casey Michel also served as an Adjunct Fellow with the Hudson Institute's Kleptocracy Initiative from 2021 to 2023. Currently, they are the Head of the Combating Kleptocracy Program at the Human Rights Foundation since 2023.

Casey Michel completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sport Management from Rice University. Casey attended Rice University from 2006 to 2010. Subsequently, they pursued a Master's Degree in Russian, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe Studies from Columbia University, which they obtained from 2013 to 2015.
