John-Luke Venables has a diverse work experience in various organizations. John-Luke began their career at the Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe as an intern in Drug Policy Research, where they conducted research on cooperative drug policies and harm reduction initiatives of EU member states. John-Luke then worked as an intern at the International Rescue Committee in the Refugee Resettlement department, assisting newly arrived refugees with resettlement services and applications for social assistance programs.
Later, John-Luke joined Fordham University as a Contributing Writer for the Fordham University French Journal, where they wrote editorial pieces on cultural events and analyzed French and European political affairs as a foreign correspondent while studying in Strasbourg, France.
Currently, John-Luke is associated with Human Rights Watch, where they have held several roles over the years. John-Luke started as an intern in Development and Outreach, conducting donor prospect research and assisting in planning and execution of donor outreach events. John-Luke then progressed to the role of Assistant in Development and Outreach, where they managed the New York team's prospect research workflow, tracked gift solicitation pipeline, and coordinated donor acknowledgements. Eventually, they were promoted to Senior Associate in the Board and Council department and then served as the Acting Council Officer.
In their most recent roles at Human Rights Watch, John-Luke was an Officer in the Chief Operating Office and is currently working as the Associate Director, Chief Operating Officer.
John-Luke Venables attended Fordham University from 2015 to 2019, where they studied Political Science and French Studies. In 2017, they participated in a study abroad program at Sciences Po Strasbourg, focusing on European politics.
