Open Source Researcher And Capacity Building Manager, Digital Investigations Lab at Human Rights Watch

Sophia Jones is an experienced journalist and researcher specializing in issues related to human rights and women's narratives. Currently serving as an open-source researcher and capacity building manager at Human Rights Watch's Digital Investigations Lab since November 2022, Sophia conducts investigations into war crimes and human rights violations globally. Previously, Sophia worked as the executive editor and investigative journalist for the Starling Lab at Stanford and USC, where crucial research on disinformation and data integrity was conducted. As the global editor at The Fuller Project from January 2017 to July 2021, Sophia led international journalism efforts, managed diverse teams, and produced impactful reporting on women's issues. Earlier roles included serving as a Middle East correspondent for The Huffington Post and as an independent journalist, covering significant international concerns for various prestigious publications. Sophia holds a BA in International Relations and Affairs from The George Washington University and has furthered education at The American University in Cairo.
