Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) is the national railway system operator of Ireland. Established on 2 February 1987, it is a subsidiary of Córas Iompair Éireann (CIÉ). It operates all internal intercity, commuter and freight railway services in the Republic of Ireland, and, jointly with Northern Ireland Railways, the Enterprise service between Dublin and Belfast.

The board of directors at Iarnród Éireann has a history of experience in electrical engineering, advocacy for people with disabilities, and management. The current board is made up of the Chief Executive Officer, the Regional Manager, and the Founder. All three members have experience in electrical engineering and management. The CEO has a degree in electrical engineering from Dundalk Institute of Technology, and the Founder has a degree in sociology and social policy from Trinity College Dublin. The Regional Manager has a law degree from the Law Society of Ireland and a degree in electrical engineering from Dundalk Institute of Technology.
