Robert Surrena has a diverse work experience in the IT field, starting in 2010 with a role as an IT Helpdesk Analyst at InnoSource, where they provided over-the-phone support for FedEx Ground Employees. Robert then gained experience as an IT Helpdesk professional at Industrial Scientific from 2012 to 2015, where they supported and provisioned various IT equipment and provided desktop application support. From 2015 to 2017, Robert worked as an Application Support Engineer at Industrial Scientific, supporting internally developed applications and providing OS support for Linux servers.
From 2017 to 2019, Robert served as a Systems Engineer - Middleware at Industrial Scientific, where they supported and architected multi-tier application infrastructure, including load balancers, server OS, database architecture, and various AWS services. Robert then transitioned to the role of Junior Site Reliability Engineer from 2019 to 2021 at the same company, where they focused on cloud infrastructure and ensuring system monitoring, security, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Robert continued to grow within Industrial Scientific and became a Site Reliability Engineer from 2021 to 2022, taking on more responsibilities in architecting and maintaining cloud infrastructure for multiple software products. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Site Reliability Engineer at the same company, where they continue to contribute to cloud infrastructure design and maintenance while ensuring the implementation of monitoring, security measures, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Robert Surrena attended Pittsburgh Technical College from 2008 to 2010, where they obtained an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Network and System Administration/Administrator. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2008, they attended Venango County Area Vocational Technical School, where they studied Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services. Robert received additional certifications including HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate (002) from HashiCorp in January 2023, CSM from Scrum Alliance in July 2018, Amazon Web Services Cloud Practitioner from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in November 2018, and Amazon Web Services SysOps Administrator - Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in September 2019.
