Alexandra is a Senior Scientific Associate in Intelligencia. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in University College London for the last 4 years. Main focus of her research was the restoration of muscle function in mouse models of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis using optogenetics and the simulation of the pathological microenvironment in microfluidics. Prior to this, Alexandra completed her PhD studies in Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology in the Medical School of Crete where she developed pioneering strategies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and CNS injuries. Small molecules, collagen scaffolds and stem cells were her main expertise. During her PhD studies she had also been a visitor student in University of Cambridge in the Brain Repair Centre in Addenbrooke’s hospital where she got trained on murine spinal cord injury models.
