Christine Buesser

Country Director, DRC at International Alert

Christine is the Country Director for DRC, providing strategic leadership to International Alert’s peacebuilding work in DRC. She represents International Alert’s DRC programme with local and international partners and stakeholders. Christine also contributes to the Great Lakes, Africa Programme and wider organisational goals and objectives.

Christine has experience in the private and non-profit sectors (humanitarian, development, stabilisation), and is an expert in management and leadership, fragile states, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, post-conflict prevention, and training and institutional support.

Prior to joining Alert Christine worked for the Arizona State University/ McCain Institute with financial support of the Howard Buffet Foundation as consultant to support the electoral stakeholders’ dialogues in DRC, Médecins Sans Frontiers/ Doctors without Borders in project and senior management positions and in different countries (e.g. DRC, Haiti, Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, etc.), and in investment banking as an analyst (Citigroup, Houlihan Lokey) in New York, US.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Babson College in Boston, USA and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard, Kennedy School of Government in Boston, USA.
