What the Role Offers - Senior HR Generalist

The Senior HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting the human resources functions of our biopharma company in the Seattle area. Reporting to the Deputy Director Human Resources, this position will be responsible for managing a variety of HR activities, including (not limited to) employee relations, performance management, immigration, benefits, leaves, payroll support, HRIS management, analytical metrics, compliance, and HR program development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR best practices, excellent communication, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

What You Need to Succeed

Employee Relations:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance improvement plans, and disciplinary actions.

  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR policies and procedures.

  • Perform exit interviews and offboarding procedures.

  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, including maintaining the employee handbook, and managing staff communication.

  • Stay up to date in knowledge of trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in HR and employment law.

  • Administer BambooHR (HRIS), ensuring employee records are accurate, up to date, and compliant.

  • Train new employees on policies, procedures, and BambooHR system.

  • Respond to employee queries regarding policies, benefits, compensation, etc.
    Compensation and Benefits:

  • Manage the company benefits program, including medical plan, 401k plan, PTO, and stock plan.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the payroll process with finance department.

  • Provide support with compensation benchmarking, modeling, job leveling, and processing of promotions and increases.

  • Serve as the primary contact for employees requesting leave, including PTO, unpaid leave, medical leave, and requests for accommodation.

  • Process leaves and accommodation requests, maintaining accurate and confidential records, and complying with company policies and legal regulations.

  • Stay informed about relevant employment laws and regulations related to leave, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and state/local leave laws.

  • Manage worker’s compensation claims and coordinate with safety officer on safety incident reporting and procedures.

Performance Management:

  • Coordinate the performance appraisal cycle, including goal setting, mid-year reviews, and year-end evaluations.

  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on completing performance evaluations and setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals.

  • Facilitate performance feedback discussions between managers and employees, emphasizing constructive feedback and developmental opportunities.

  • Provide support to managers on delivering effective feedback, addressing performance issues, and recognizing employee achievements, utilizing the GROW (Goal, Reality, Obstacles, Way Ford/Will) model of coaching.

Compliance:

  • Manage the process of sponsoring visas for foreign employees, including coordinating with legal counsel, completing necessary paperwork, and ensuring timely submission of visa applications.

  • Ensure compliance with immigration laws and regulations, including visa requirements, work permits, and residency permits.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR best practices and industry trends.

  • Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, including maintaining the employee handbook, and developing and managing trainings and communications.

  • Assist with EEOC filings, unemployment claims, DOL inquiries, and all other compliance related matters as needed.

Analytical Metrics:

  • Track and provide metrics related to recruitment, retention, turnover, employee engagement, performance, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Prepare regular reports and dashboards, highlighting key HR metrics and trends.

HR Program Development:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR programs and initiatives, such as employee engagement initiatives, performance management, training and development programs, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, conflict resolution skills, and experience managing employee grievances and disciplinary issues. Well-versed in immigration law and the visa application process.

  • Experience working in the life sciences industry is a must.

  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Proficiency in using HRIS software and Microsoft Office Suite for managing employee data, generating reports, and analyzing HR metrics to support decision-making.

  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently use of office equipment that requires manual dexterity to operate (i.e. computers, phones, etc.).
  • Occasional carrying, handling, and reaching for objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Frequently sit or stand for long periods of time.

Mental Demands:

  • Requires operational discipline to consistently focus and execute work-related tasks, with a minimum of human error and supervision. This involves self-checking of work immediately upon completion, and the ability to find / correct errors.

  • Ability to elevate potential concerns/discrepancies to supervisors or management in a timely fashion.

  • Ability to manage time effectively to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously required.

  • Ability to use problem-solving techniques to ensure project goals are met.

  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written are necessary to communicate within different departments and with external clients, maintaining a professional demeanor.

  • Ability to adhere to ethical standards of conduct as well as applicable state and federal laws.

Working Conditions:

  • .Onsite position in Redmond, WA. No remote or hybrid work is available for this position.

  • Primarily this position involves working in an office environment.

  • Occasional work in a temperature-controlled environment may be required.

  • Ability to travel between facilities depending on business needs.

  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Estimated Base Salary: $85,000 to $110,000 / yearly DOE

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, or HSA: Inventprise contributes 80% toward the Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage for the employee, and their enrolled spouse, and dependents. Medical plans are currently provided through Premera Blue Cross.

  • 401(k) program: Inventprise offers both pre-tax 401(k) and post-tax Roth retirement savings plans, letting you decide how you want to save for the future. We also make an employer contribution of 3% of your total earnings each pay period, regardless of whether you contribute.
