Kyle Johnston

Kyle Johnston has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering, primarily in the aerospace industry.

Kyle started their career as a Real-Time Software Engineer at Barrios Technology, LTD in 2018. Here, they performed formal verification of the Boeing CST-100 Starliner flight software, earning commendations for the thoroughness and quality of their test designs. Kyle specifically verified the fault detection, isolation, and recovery requirements for the avionics communication buses and integrated propulsion controllers.

In 2019, Kyle joined Raytheon Missiles & Defense as a Software Engineer II. Kyle served as the hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) software lead for a rapid-paced DARPA development effort, managing the scope of work, making architectural decisions, and participating in C++ software development. Kyle also led the update effort for a legacy HWIL station.

Kyle then moved on to SpaceX in 2021 as a Software Engineer. Kyle created a central system API to share data between software components and designed a suite of base classes for flight software components. These standardized tasks, enabled telemetering of task status, and improved synchronized task scheduling in the system.
