Matthew Burbidge

Primary Care Partner Engagement & Communication Lead at Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority

Matthew Burbidge has diverse work experience in various industries and roles. Matthew began their career as a Master Art Preservationist and Picture Framer in 1996 before transitioning into roles in the public sector. Matthew worked as a Policy Analyst and Expenditure Analyst at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat from 2008 to 2012. In 2012, they briefly served as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada. Matthew then moved to the University of Alberta as the Director of Major & Planned Gifts. Following that, they held positions as the Director of Civics at the Blackmud Creek Community League and as a Senior Outreach Officer for the Government of Alberta. In 2015, they became the Director of Communications & Marketing at E4C, a non-profit organization focused on poverty elimination. Matthew then joined the City of Edmonton as a committee member for neighborhood revitalization in 2018. From 2017 to 2020, they served as the Director of Communications & Marketing at the Excel Society, a service provider for individuals with developmental disabilities. Currently, Matthew works for Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority as the Primary Care Partner Engagement & Communication Lead.

Matthew Burbidge has a Master of Public Administration degree in Policy, Governance, and Public Sector Management from Queen's University, which they completed from 2007 to 2008. Matthew also holds a Master of Political Management degree in Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs from Carleton University, which they obtained from 2011 to 2012. In 2014, Matthew completed the Erhard-Jensen Ontological Phenomenological Initiative at Harvard University. Prior to these degrees, they completed a Bachelor's of Communications & Culture (Honours) degree with a specialization in Honours in Canadian Studies from the University of Calgary, which they obtained from 2002 to 2006.
