Jakob Nalley, PhD has worked in a variety of roles since 2011. Jakob obtained their PhD from Michigan State University in 2011, where they established a partnership with a local craft brewer to couple algae biomass generation with brewery wastewater remediation, constructed algal communities under fluctuating environmental conditions, and established an extensive algal thermal trait database. In 2013, they were a GK-12 Fellow for the National Science Foundation K-12 STEM Initiative. From 2015-2017 they were an Innovations Fellow at Spartan Innovations, a Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy Fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Program Coordinator at Northwestern University, and a Member of the Board of Directors at The Algae Foundation, where they co-led the K-12 STEM Algae Initiative and developed a 5 day educational algae kit. Since 2017, they have been Director of Agronomy and an Agronomist at iwi.

Jakob Nalley received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Integrative Biology from Michigan State University between 2011 and 2016. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences and Environmental Science from Loyola University Chicago between 2007 and 2011.
