Before transitioning into the field of HR, Dr. Burroughs worked as the EEO Manager at Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity from 1995 to 2003. Lisa L. managed a team of investigators and enforced compliance with state and federal laws regarding employment discrimination.

Throughout their career, Dr. Burroughs has demonstrated their expertise and effectiveness in areas such as talent management, policy development, legal compliance, and organizational development. Lisa L. also has experience as an adjunct faculty member at Nova Southeastern University, teaching Advanced HRD/OD courses. Additionally, Dr. Burroughs has operated their own consulting firm, Burroughs Consulting Group, where they provided HR development services to various organizations.

Lisa L. obtained their Bachelor of Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Science degrees from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University from 1983 to 1987. Lisa L. further pursued their studies and completed their Master of Science degree in Administration with a focus on Human Resources, Business Administration, and Public Administration from Central Michigan University, spanning from 2000 to 2001. Lisa's academic journey continued with their enrollment at Nova Southeastern University, where they obtained their Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership and Human Resource Development during the period of 2002 to 2003.
