Jon Stegall

Lead Technical Artist at Kazoo Games

Jon Stegall has over 15 years of work experience in the gaming industry. Jon began their career in 2005 as a UI Intern/ UI Technical Artist at Perpetual Entertainment. Jon then moved to Page 44 Studios in 2008 as a Technical Artist, where they implemented a process for using PyQt and Qt designer to create Maya interfaces, designed and created robust GUI tools in Python and wxPython, and designed and implemented pipelines for various art teams. In 2011, they joined Zynga as a Technical Artist for the Mobile Team, where they recompiled and fixed art tools to work on Mac OSX/Unix, documented and taught artists new Mac OSX/PC VM ware based work flow, and created and maintained new art pipelines for IOS social games. In 2012, they worked at Disney Interactive as a Technical Artist, creating a pipeline and tools for baking lightmaps in Maya, creating Maya scripts to check assets for errors and inconsistency, and creating Photoshop scripts that automatically compose an atlas of lightmaps. Jon then moved to Aechelon Technologies in 2013 as a Content Creation Pipeline Software Engineer, where they created a python tool for streaming in terrain tiles in Maya, a C++ interface for accessing libraries in Maya python using Boost Python, and a tool to procedural construct models and textures for runway signage based on text input. In 2015, they joined Jam City as a Lead Technical Artist, leading a small team of technical artists, organizing tasks, teaching techniques, and providing feedback. Jon also designed and implemented a shader based fog of war system for their world building game and a terrain system using complex shaders to blend terrain tiles in an aesthetically pleasing way that works for mobile. Jon is currently a Lead Technical Artist at Kazoo Games, a position they have held since 2022.

Jon Stegall received a B.S. in Game Art and Design from the Art Institute of California San Francisco between 2004 and 2007. Prior to that, they earned a BS in Computer Science from California State University, Fresno between 1999 and 2003.
