Julia Barfield

Head of Employer Engagement at Kinside

Julia Barfield has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Julia is currently serving as the Head of Employer Engagement at Kinside since June 2022. Prior to this, they worked at LegUp from February 2021 to June 2022, holding the position of Strategic Partnerships Director. Earlier at LegUp, they served as an Advisor from January 2020 to February 2021.

Before joining LegUp, Julia worked at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation from January 2019 to February 2021. In this role, they led the early education portfolio content creation and strategy, educated and mobilized U.S. Chamber members and state and local chambers on the issue, and grew the operating budget by more than 300% to build out the policy agenda and grow the team.

Julia also gained experience at Save the Children Action Network, Inc. as a Federal Government Relations Manager from December 2017 to January 2019. Julia was involved in hurricane response teams for Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Harvey and served as a Government Relations Policy Fellow. Furthermore, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Refugee Mental Health and Wellness Initiative and Mental Health Specialist Intern at Orange County Head Start/Early Head Start in 2015.

Earlier in their career, Julia held roles such as Special Projects Intern at the North Carolina Head Start State Collaboration Office in 2016 and Lead Counselor at Noah's Anchorage Youth Crisis Shelter from June 2013 to June 2015. Overall, their work experience demonstrates their expertise in strategic partnerships, government relations, policy development, and early education.

Julia Barfield has a Master's Degree in Social Work and Maternal and Child Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology and Hispanic Studies from Westmont College.
