Alejandro Betancourt

Alejandro Betancourt, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Alejandro started their career in 2009 as a Criminal Data Algorithm Engineer at Alcaldía de Medellín, where they applied spatial analysis algorithms to study crime patterns in the city. From 2010 to 2016, Alejandro worked at Universidad EAFIT as a Researcher and Consultant in the RiSE group, developing quantitative methods for spatial analysis and exploring spatial clustering algorithms.

In 2013, Alejandro pursued their Ph.D. at Università degli Studi di Genova and Eindhoven University of Technology, focusing on wearable cameras and machine learning. Alejandro'sresearch involved studying user-centered analysis and developing a unified framework for hand-based methods in wearable cameras.

After completing their Ph.D., Alejandro joined TP Vision as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, where they developed picture quality algorithms for Philips TVs. Alejandro then moved on to Ecopetrol as the Digital Transformation Leader and Director of Digital Innovation, responsible for designing and executing the company's digital transformation initiatives to create efficiencies across the value chain.

Alejandro also served as the General Manager for Latin America at Landing AI, working with Andrew Ng to promote the adoption of artificial intelligence globally. In this role, they led a team focused on developing computer vision systems and machine learning pipelines for Automatic Visual Inspection in manufacturing companies.

Currently, Alejandro is the Chief Technology Officer at KLYM, where they previously held roles such as Chief Data Officer and Head of Data. In these positions, they oversaw the organization's data strategy and implementation, including risk analysis tools, machine learning capabilities, and the development of data-driven solutions in supply chain finance.

Throughout their career, Alejandro has demonstrated expertise in data strategy, machine learning, artificial intelligence, spatial analysis, and digital transformation. Alejandro'swork experience showcases their leadership roles and contributions to various organizations in driving innovation and leveraging technology for business success.

Alejandro Betancourt, Ph.D., earned a Ph.D. (Cum Laude) in Interactive and Cognitive Environments from both Eindhoven University of Technology and Università degli Studi di Genova, completing their studies between 2013 and 2017. Prior to their Ph.D., they obtained a Master of Science (MSc with Honors) in Applied Mathematics from Universidad EAFIT in 2012. In 2010, they had previously earned their undergraduate degree in Mathematical Engineering (Best Bachelor Researcher) from the same institution, specializing in Computational and Applied Mathematics. Additionally, they hold certifications in Developing Android Apps from Udacity, Algorithms: Design and Analysis, Part 1 from Coursera, and Machine Learning from Coursera.
