Annelien Bredenoord is a prominent figure in the fields of biomedical ethics and academic leadership, currently serving as President and Rector Magnificus at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam since September 2021. Bredenoord is a Professor of Ethics of (Biomedical) Technologies and chairs the Supervisory Board of The Netherlands Institute for Social Research starting January 2024. With a significant role in the European Commission's High Level Expert Group for Horizon Europe since December 2023, Bredenoord's past positions include Senator and parliamentary group leader for the D66 party in the Dutch Senate from June 2015 to June 2023. Bredenoord has also held key positions in various organizations, including KNAW, Metropole Orkest, and Amsterdam UMC, and has a substantial academic background, holding a PhD in Medical Ethics from Maastricht University and a degree from Leiden University.
