Nick Knezek

Staff Data Scientist at KoBold Metals

Nick is a data scientist and geophysicist with years of experience applying programming, statistics, and physics in a wide variety of fields. He received a B.A. in Physics from Dartmouth College where he built instruments and studied magnetospheric ions around Earth and near Jupiter’s moons. He joined NASA JPL in 2013, where he helped shield spacecraft from radiation and other hazards. He left to earn a Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Science at U.C. Berkeley, where he studied magnetic waves in Earth’s core and the evolution of magnetic fields on Earth and Mars using a variety of computational and statistical techniques.

Nick transitioned to data science in 2018 as an Insight Data Science fellow. Prior to joining KoBold, he was a data scientist at Arceo.ai, studying cybersecurity risk using various machine learning models. There he led projects spanning the full lifecycle of data science from project proposal and management, data acquisition and cleaning, prototyping, training, and deploying and maintaining production code on AWS. He is excited to combine his physics and data science experience to important work facilitating a transition to green energy at KoBold Metals.
