Kopp Glass, the leading worldwide manufacturer of hand molded, technical glass products, is seeking to hire a Machinist to join our Mold Shop. Kopp’s Mold Shop plays a pivotal role in our manufacturing process; this individual will be involved with the day-to-day operations associated with fabricating and preparing molds for glass production. Kopp Glass is seeking a Machinist/Mold Maker that is a skilled craftsman who can efficiently operate all standard machine tools. The ideal candidate is able to effectively interpret drawings while using precision measuring instruments and hand tools. They must be able to perform any bench, layout, or machine tool operations. In addition, they should be capable of mathematical calculations required for setting up and machining any part. It is preferred the mold maker have a basic understanding of welding, computers, cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Read drawings and calculate sizes, fits, and tolerances of machined parts.

  • Calculate cutting speeds and feeds.

  • Import g-code programs to CNC machines and modify if necessary to complete operations.

  • Make informed decisions about tool selection, material choice and setup configurations.

  • Complete job setups and breakdown.

  • Clean and maintain tools and machines as required.

  • Rough cut and saw blank material to size before machining.

  • Efficiently machine (e.g. mill, drill, bore, profile, ream, tap, grind, polish, etc.) parts to meet drawing specifications.

  • Provide support to production for minor tooling repairs that are time sensitive, sometimes working with hot equipment.

  • Mold Makers are responsible for personally owned tools of the trade for daily use.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School or General Education Diploma (GED); Journeyman papers strongly preferred

  • 2+ years machining experience required; CNC experience preferred

  • Must have good mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to accurately read and interpret drawings
