Jugpreet Singh

Head of Bioinformatics at LeafWorks Inc.

Jugpreet Singh has a diverse work experience in the field of bioinformatics and genetics. Jugpreet is currently working as the Head of Bioinformatics at LeafWorks Inc., where they lead projects on bioinformatics, genomics, and genetics of Cannabis and Hemp. Jugpreet'sresponsibilities include leading projects on DNA and long-read sequencing, as well as genetic mapping projects for different traits in Cannabis.

Prior to this role, Jugpreet worked as a Researcher at The University of Georgia, where they focused on advancing segregating populations and genetic analysis of tomato volatile loci related to fruit flavor and size. Jugpreet also identified and characterized candidate genes in the volatile production pathways and conducted genomic analysis of a multicopy gene locus associated with lipid-derived volatiles.

Jugpreet also served as a Postdoctoral Associate at Cornell University, where they performed computational and statistical analysis of the genetic diversity and population structure in bacterial genomes. Jugpreet also analyzed RNA-Seq data to study gene expression patterns in apple in response to fire blight infection and identified co-expression modules and gene regulatory pathways associated with root-regulation fire blight responses. Additionally, they assembled bacterial genomes from PacBio sequencing data.

Before joining Cornell University, Jugpreet was a UF Informatics Institute Fellow at the University of Florida. In this role, they independently led lab work, field experiments, and guided lab members in the absence of the principal investigator. Jugpreet'sresearch focused on evaluating large segregating populations and diverse germplasm to identify the genetic control of heat stress tolerance in common bean. Jugpreet also performed genetic mapping to identify QTLs for vegetative and reproductive traits in common bean.

Jugpreet's earlier experience includes working as an ORISE Fellow at USDA-ARS, where they constructed a high-density transcriptome derived F1 linkage map in apios using a pseudo-testcross approach. Jugpreet also analyzed comparative transcriptome data to study the evolution of tuber development in legumes and conducted dynamic transcriptome profiling of Bean Common Mosaic Virus infection in common bean.

At the beginning of their career, Jugpreet worked as an Agriculture Inspector at the Department of Agriculture, Punjab. Jugpreet'sresponsibilities included conducting farmer field trials, developing research and extension plans, and disseminating subsidized seeds, nutrients, and machinery to farmers.

Overall, Jugpreet Singh has gained extensive experience in bioinformatics, genomic analysis, genetic mapping, and research in various agricultural and genetic fields throughout their career.

Jugpreet Singh holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Horticultural Science, which they obtained from the University of Florida between the years 2009 and 2014. Prior to this, they also completed a Master's degree in Vegetable Breeding from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, during the period from 2005 to 2007.
